David began his career as a high school English and speech teacher, graduating from Luther College in Decorah, IA in 1961. He changed career fields to real estate sales in 1966 and has been active in sales and real estate management ever since.

Mr. Lyng has been President and CEO of David Lyng & Associates, Inc. since it was organized in 1980 and the company currently has 5 offices covering Monterey Bay from Santa Cruz to Carmel-by-the-Sea. The company provides general brokerage service and specializes in all categories of residential sales including primary residences, vacation homes and investment second homes.

David is proud of having a locally owned family business that has been successful through the years because of the dedication of the agents and the support staff working together as a team.

David has a long history serving the real estate profession. He has extensive experience in his local real estate association as a committee member and chairperson of numerous committees. As a corporate officer, he has served as Secretary Treasurer, Vice President and as President of the local Santa Cruz Association of Realtors. David was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award in 1999.

He has also been a member of the board of directors for the California Association of Realtors (CAR) continuously since 1970. In 1994 he was honored by the state association (CAR) for his long service and appointed an Honorary Director for Life.

David and his wife Sally enjoy relaxing at their home in Santa Cruz and at their vacation home in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico with family and friends.

Sally is the perennial leader in the sale of homes in Santa Cruz County with over 1 billion in sales volume spanning her 35 years in the industry. She is recognized as being in the top 1% of agents in the Silicon Valley, Monterey Bay Area Market.

Sally has been a licensed agent since 1975 and opened David Lyng Real Estate with her husband in 1980. Together they have grown the office from only a few agents in 1 office to 5 offices and over 130 agents. In her management role at David Lyng Real Estate, Sally is the Marketing Manager and oversees the company’s print and online marketing presence. Sally has always enjoyed marketing and has been the main visionary for the company’s branding and has a keen eye for design, layout, and presentation. In her personal life Sally enjoys vacationing in Puerto Vallarta and France and is very close with her two daughters, Megan and Morgan, who work at the company. Sally and David also find happiness in their two furry friends, their beloved King Charles Cavalier Spaniels, Bosley and Bentley.

Morgan joined her family’s company in 2010 and has served in a variety of different roles. She is currently the Assistant Brokerage Manager and helps oversee the day to day operations of the company. She obtained her real estate broker's license in 2011 and is on the Board of Directors for the Santa Cruz County Association of Realtors. She also served on the Events and Planning Committee and is currently part of the Local Candidate Recommendation Committee (LCRC).

Prior to joining David Lyng Real Estate, Morgan graduated from UC Berkeley with a BS in Business Administration from the Haas School of Business and began working at Prudential Mortgage Capital Company where she worked as an Investment Analyst, underwriting loans for the CMBS market, Prudential General Account, and Fannie Mae. In March 2008 Morgan transferred to Prudential Real Estate Investors to join the West Coast Acquisitions team where she helped analyze and evaluate potential commercial investments and developments. She also spent 6 months working as an asset manager and assisted in the overseeing, leasing, and operations of 32 commercial properties on the West Coast.

Greg Lukina joined David Lyng Real Estate as the Director of Business Development in 2013 and helps oversee and implement the company’s strategic plan, growth opportunities, and overall business plan. Greg previously worked at Cahill Contractors, Inc. out of San Francisco where he held the position of Senior Project Manager. His last Cahill project was the construction of a $31.5 million, 120-unit apartment project in the Transbay Redevelopment District in the heart of downtown San Francisco. During his career at Cahill he had been involved in the new construction of a 250,000sf mixed-use office/residential project and renovation/tenant improvement projects at schools and hotels throughout San Francisco. Prior to starting at Cahill, Greg spent time as an engineer at Treadwell & Rollo, Inc, a San Francisco based geotechnical and environmental engineering firm. In addition to being a licensed Professional Engineer in the state of California, he recently completed his M.B.A. at the University of California, Berkeley’s Haas School of Business. He also holds an M.S. in Civil and Environmental Engineering with a focus in Geotechnical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley and a B.S. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.

Megan Lyng is the Director of Social Media and Special Events at David Lyng Real Estate and enjoys keeping a pulse on the ever changing world of social media and eMarketing. She enjoys teaching training classes on social media and how to help our agents stay current with the latest trends and online tools. She also organizes and helps coordinate special events such as the David Lyng Annual Charity Gift Fair, Annual Awards Ceremony, Adopt a Family, and our food drive for Second Harvest Food Bank.

Megan is a graduate of the University of California, Santa Barbara, and has also completed educational programs abroad in Florence, Italy and at the Haas School of Business at Cal Berkeley. Megan’s decision to become a REALTOR® and join her parents’ company not only came from her observance of their enjoyment and success in the business, but also by determining what type of profession would best suit her personality. Jenny Putney joined David Lyng Real Estate in 2003 and is the Human Resources Manager responsible for employee recruitment and retention, benefits, labor law compliance, employee motivation and communication, conflict resolution, performance management, training, and professional development. She oversees all onboarding of new agents and collaborates with the management team to bring speakers, educators and cutting-edge training opportunities to the company. Jenny has a Bachelor of Science degree from California State University Sacramento in Business Administration and a Master of Arts degree in Human Resource Management and Organizational Development from the University of San Francisco. Prior to working in the real estate industry, Jenny previously worked in human resources at two well-known local companies, West Marine Products and Driscoll Strawberry Associates, Inc. She has had her CA real estate license since 2005.

She is the proud mother of two children and when not working she and her husband, Jeff Putney, enjoy spending time at the beach and vacationing with their kids.

Nick Thomas joined David Lyng Real Estate in 2002 and has held his real estate license since 2004. Born and raised in San Mateo, California he moved to Santa Cruz area to attend Bethany University, where he graduated with a BA in Music, Vocal Performance. While attending Bethany he was involved in many ways; played on the inaugural intercollegiate varsity baseball team, sang in the college choir and was on Student Senate. Soon after college graduation he was hired at David Lyng Real Estate as staff and has progressed to his current position of Real Estate Transaction Manager, overseeing the management of most company sales and as well as the coordination activities of the other employees in the David Lyng Real Estate escrow coordination department. Nick also coordinates multiple company events/outreaches, like the annual David Lyng Golf Tournament, the company softball team and the Save Our Shores Adopt-A-Beach program (Capitola Beach). Nick enjoys having the opportunity to work for a locally owned and operated company and looks forward to many years of continued success.
